The Evansville Obedience Club was formed in 1971 by five hard working and insightful people who were committed to their dogs. Obedience classes were held in the Basement of the old Evansville Courthouse. In 1974, EOC held their first sanctioned AKC obedience match. In 2011 we held 17 Obedience and Rally trials, as well as, 6 Agility trials.
After holding classes at several locations throughout the years, in 1995, the Evansville Obedience Club moved to its present location at 1400 North Cullen Avenue on Evansville’s east side. This is a permanent indoor, air-conditioned/heated facility with flooring designed for training and showing dogs.
EOC has a membership of over 60 people with approximately fifteen experienced instructors. Club members are active in a large variety of dog-related activities including showing in breed and obedience, agility, tracking, herding trials, water dog competition, field training, Flyball relay races, etc.
Our training classes are for dog owners of all experience levels from absolute beginners who simply want a well-behaved pet to advanced levels of competition in Obedience and Agility. Our goal is to teach those who want to learn how to train their dogs and enjoy the benefits that obedience training provides.
In addition to Obedience and Tally we provide training and evaluations for Canine Good Citizenship Certificates. Some members have had certified with Therapy Dogs, International and Delta Society Pet Partners Program, and can visit nursing homes to allow residents to pet and love a dog. Some members are professionals in dog activities making their living as trainers, groomers, veterinarians, veterinarian technicians, and kennel owners.
Evansville Obedience Club is licensed by the American Kennel Club. We also holds several show-n-go events to help prepare students and members for any upcoming competitions.
EOC assists those who wish to excel in training by sponsoring seminars with top level trainers. Some renowned trainers we have hosted include Diane Bauman, Connie Cleveland and Bridgett Carlson.
